Accepting New Clients
As a queer therapist, David connects deeply with the LGBTQIA+ community and takes pride in fostering safe spaces for clients with intersecting marginalized identities. David is passionate about creating a safe and affirming, judgment-free space for clients to explore their mental health challenges and work toward meaningful change. David specializes in working with LGBTQ+ clients navigating their mental health and intersectional identities, and is attuned to the unique challenges we face as he works collaboratively to support identity formation and self-acceptance.
David’s approach to therapy is relational. He’s easy to talk to, and takes time getting to know you. He incorporates a semi-structured approach grounded in person-centered and narrative therapies. His approach to skill building and intervention is informed by his background in short-term therapy and linkage to care, where he learned a strong foundation in evidence-based modalities such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). His strengths-based approach integrates tools to help clients build independence and apply therapeutic strategies in their daily lives. Whether focusing on short-term insight or long-term growth, David ensures that each client feels supported and empowered throughout their journey. David’s approach emphasizes both advocacy and empowerment. His work focuses on helping clients stabilize their social circumstances, connect with vital resources, and lay the groundwork for mental health recovery.

David's Experience & Background
David is a licensed graduate professional counselor with a deep commitment to social justice and advocacy. He has worked extensively in roles in warm-lines, call-centers, and crisis stabilization, providing therapy to clients with SPMI while also helping clients and their families navigate systems like DSS, assisting with appeals, legal coordination, and accessing entitlements. His focus here at Magothy River Counseling is outpatient psychotherapy primarily via telehealth - we evaluate clients regularly and refer to higher levels of care when appropriate. We are not an acute care, emergency, IOP or PHP setting.
Outside of his clinical work, David enjoys playing and composing music—a creative outlet he has cultivated since childhood—and spending time with his community.
